PERSONALITY AND APPEARANCE To be put bluntly, Eris is an attractive woman. She's the human version of a Vixen, her appearance draws people in, and then she ruins them. Mara is tall, but not towering - thin, but not malnourished. Her hair is long, and golden blonde. As Mara, she dressed very fashionably, often over-dressed for any occasion she went to. She loves all eyes being on her. Mara is gorgeous and she knows it. Even pre-curse Mara had a knack for being mischievous and spinning discord in people's lives. With her job as a tabloid writer, it was fairly easy. Even still, Mara wouldn't consider herself inherently evil - just a bit of a wild card. She likes to give people grief, and watch them squirm. Because of this, she's made a few not-quite-friends as she likes to call them. Mara isn't in the business of making enemies, she would never go that far with her mischief. Often times, she'll kick back and have a beer with the ones that she just wrote a smear piece on in her tabloid. Getting a rise out of people is the only business she's in for. Deep down, really, really, deep down Mara just might be a not-too-terrible person. If it's in her interest. After more than a few encounters with the downright evil, Mara knows that's not her side to play. But white knight in shining armor really isn't her style either. A happy, crazy medium is where she likes to sit, and she's just fine not really being on either side of the fence. HISTORY Eris, the Goddess of Discord and Chaos. She was born from Nyx, with no father. She was not favored among the gods in Olympus, being known (obviously) for her knack for mischief. Her troublesome ways often led to her being purposefully not-invited to the big happenings in Olympus. Eris played an important role in the events that eventually led to the Trojan War. All of the Olympians had been invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis (who would become the parents of Achilles) however, Eris was not invited, due to her inclination to cause discord. As a means of revenge, Eris dropped the golden Apple of Discord into the party, which had the words 'To The Fairest One' inscribed on it. Hera, Athena and Aphrodite started arguing over who the apple should be given to, so Zeus appointed Paris, Prince of Troy, as the person to solve the dispute. The goddesses offered Paris various gifts, but he eventually picked Aphrodite, who promised him the most beautiful woman in the world; Helen, wife of Menelaus, king of Sparta. And thus, the Trojan War. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. After many, many years of playing puppeteer with the little humans down below, Eris finally decided it was time she pay Earth a visit, as one of their own. Eris took on the guise of many different people, each a wandering soul that happened to leave chaos in her wake. She lived her human life as that of a nomad, never settling in one place, or keeping many possesions. The only thing that could be remembered of Mara, was a peculiar charm she wore around her neck - a chain with a golden apple attached. It was her crossing with a strange man, in a strange land that landed Mara in Storybrooke. The peculiar man, Rumplestiltskin, had challenged her to a contest - one Mara knew she had in the pocket. Some silly challenge, causing trouble for someone, it was easy for the goddess of chaos. Had she not been so arrogant, Eris might've known that this contest was a trap. Rumple had known exactly who she was, and exactly what she would do; some sort of silly magics Mara hadn't anticipated. What was on the line for this challenge? Eris' golden apple. She was rendered powerless. Eris, enraged and too embarrassed to ask the gods for help, began plotting. Rumple would get the full wrath of the goddess. Or, he would've, had Eris not been swept away in a swarm of dark clouds, and brought to a new world. This new land had magic more powerful than her own. It had wiped her memories and implanted new ones. Here, Eris was known as Mara Teague, She ran a tabloid, one that often had outlandish claims against the people of Storybrooke. Even as a human with no memory of her life as a goddess, she was still a troublemaker. When the curse was lifted, and Mara regained the knowledge of her life, to say she was furious would be a severe understatement. She stormed in to Mr. Gold's, demanding the property that was rightfully hers, ie- her golden apple. Mr. Gold, however, had other plans. The apple was rightfully his, he even had it in black and white. He needed her apple, he claimed. For what, she didn't know, but to get it back, Mara would have to do some things for him. Mara is currently under the thumb of Mr. Gold in Storybrooke, unwillingly doing his bidding and all kinds of shifty things so that one day she can get back her beloved Golden Apple. |
